SBDM Policies

MCIS Site Based Decision Making (SBDM) Council Policies

At Mercer County Intermediate School, we value the input of parents and guardians as we work to create the most supportive and effective learning environment for each student. While the School-Based Decision Making Council (SBDM) policy does not require parental requests to be considered, the administration believes that your insights, particularly regarding social and emotional needs, are vital in the placement process whenever possible.

Please note: We cannot accommodate requests for specific teachers. However, we welcome and encourage you to share information about the characteristics, personalities, and traits in a teacher that you believe will best support your child’s growth and learning experience.

Your input is an important part of our process, and we appreciate your time in providing thoughtful feedback.

Thank you for partnering with us to make Mercer County Intermediate School a positive and supportive place for every student.

STUDENT ASSIGNMENT POLICY

CRITERIA FOR STUDENT ASSIGNMENT TO CLASSES AND PROGRAMS

The principal (or principal’s designee) will assign students to classes and programs in a manner that will:

  1. Take each student’s developmental needs into account.
  2. Facilitate the Implementation of our School Improvement Plan.
  3. Support the goal of not exceeding the state class size cap except under the following circumstances:
  • Temporary exceptions in order to provide an appropriate assignment to a student newly enrolled in the school.
  • Permanent exceptions made after meeting with all the teachers for the appropriate student level and topics to discuss student needs and possible solutions and after determining that no reasonable alternative will meet the student’s needs.

INTERMEDIATE ASSIGNMENTS (ELEMENTARY)

In Spring, administration will meet with teaching teams to discuss placements of students and give thoughtful consideration to the recommendations made by the teachers.

The principal (or principal’s designee) will assign students who enter the school after the recommendations are complete.

Within 2 weeks before the first day of school, the principal (or principal’s designee) will decide on final assignments for the next year and notify parents.

POLICY EVALUATION

We will evaluate the effectiveness of this policy through our School Improvement Planning Process.
